JACK OF ALL TRADES IS A MASTER OF NONE, BUT OFTENTIMES BETTER THAN A MASTER OF ONE
The phrase Jack of All Trades typically has negative connotations but the title comes from a longer quote: “A jack of all trades is a master of none, but oftentimes better than a master of one,”which is said to come from William Shakespeare. The quote gives the title a different meaning that aims to celebrate diversity of skills/interests. Since the Renaissance, people have grown more and more specialized in their abilities. The narrowing of skills has its benefits but does not often create well rounded individuals. Someone capable of trying something new and placing themselves in uncomfortable novel spaces, knowing they likely will never reach an elite level, develops a unique sense of resilience. People ought to try new things more, especially with a lack of expectation around performance.
